Peavey Industries Awards Community Agriculture Grant Funds to Stevenson Children’s Camp

Red Deer, Alberta (November 27, 2023) – In March 2023, Peavey Industries LP opened the application period for its annual Community Agricultural Grant. Designed to address the vast and varied needs of communities anywhere within a 300km radius of a Peavey Mart, MainStreet Hardware, or ACE store, applications came in from initiatives from British Columbia to Ontario.

When applications closed on May 31, 2023, Peavey Industries had received more than 350 applications from across the country for projects as diverse as our customers.

One of the three successful applicants this year was the Stevenson Children’s Camp based in Dorchester, Ontario with their application to develop a fully functioning garden at the camp. This camp has proudly been providing a residential camp experience for underprivileged children for over 50 years!

“We are passionate about supporting projects that bring tangible benefits to our communities, especially when they involve nurturing the younger generation. This initiative is not just about planting seeds in the ground; it's about planting ideas and knowledge in young minds” says Doug Anderson, CEO of Peavey Industries LP. The $20,000 grant will enable the camp to offer hands-on learning experiences in gardening and food security, thus cultivating the next generation of 'Urban Gardeners.' We believe this project will have a lasting impact, teaching children valuable life skills and instilling in them a love for nature and sustainability. We are proud to support Stevenson Children’s Camp in their endeavor to enrich the lives of children through this innovative gardening project.

“Our goal and mission is to provide our campers, staff/volunteers and visitors with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of health, wellness and quality of life through hands-on involvement in our victory garden program. Many of the children who attend our camp come from families with poor food security, at an economic disadvantage and who are from the London/Middlesex/Elgin County and surrounding areas” says Joe Douglas, Camp Director. We are truly grateful to the Peavey Community Agricultural Grant for entrusting us with grant money to bring our victory garden to fruition. This initial investment by Peavey is an excellent foundation and will completely change our camper and visitor experience. Our victory garden once complete will impact us for our future years and change the trajectory of our campers lives for years to come, leading our camp into a stronger sustainable future.

Each year, applicants can apply for any funding amount up to the full yearly grant availability of $100,000 for projects designed to address a current or imminent need within their community. From community garden projects to research funding, and from food security initiatives to creating safe spaces for people to come together, the Community Agricultural Grant creates an avenue to invest in the communities where we live, work, and come together.
