Peavey Industries Awards Community Agriculture Grant Funds to AgScape

Red Deer, Alberta (November 27, 2023) – In March 2023, Peavey Industries LP opened the application period for its annual Community Agricultural Grant. Designed to address the vast and varied needs of communities anywhere within a 300km radius of a Peavey Mart, MainStreet Hardware, or ACE store, applications came in from initiatives from British Columbia to Ontario. When applications closed on May 31, 2023, Peavey Industries had received more than 350 applications from across the country for projects as diverse as our customers.

One of the three successful applicants this year was AgScape (Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc.) based in Milton with their application to fund further expansion to the program. This program provides factual, balanced, curriculum-linked food literacy programs and resources to classrooms in Ontario.

“AgScape's dedication to providing balanced, factual, and curriculum-linked food literacy programs in Ontario classrooms is perfectly aligned with our mission to support educational initiatives that strengthen the connection between communities and the agricultural sector” says Doug Anderson, CEO of Peavey Industries LP. The $25,000 grant awarded to AgScape will catalyze their efforts in bringing comprehensive agricultural education to more students, thereby deepening their understanding of the food system's social, economic, and environmental aspects. Their work not only educates but also inspires, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of their programs in shaping a more sustainable and informed future.

“We at AgScape are so proud to be partnering with Peavey Industries to inspire the next generation of agri-food leaders. By delivering engaging agriculture and food education activities in classrooms and equipping educators with innovative and comprehensive resources, we are ensuring that every student in Ontario understands their role in our agriculture and food processes. Thank you, Peavey, for championing our work and helping us to ensure a sustainable and accessible food system for every person in the province!”
-Mira Lyonblum, Executive Director, AgScape

Each year, applicants can apply for any funding amount up to the full yearly grant availability of $100,000 for projects designed to address a current or imminent need within their community.
